School Leavers
Indigenous entry
Australian Indigenous school leavers can enter ECU using the Indigenous University Orientation Course (IUOC), in addition to our other school leaver pathway options.
Indigenous University Orientation Course (IUOC)
The IUOC is a bridging course which prepares Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders for entry into University.
On successful completion, we calculate an equivalent TER for entry into our undergraduate courses.

Admission requirements
You must be an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and have fulfilled one of the following criteria in the last three years:
- Sat TEE and did not pass, in year prior to study
- Graduated from Year 12 with a WACE Certificate (or equivalent interstate or overseas) prior to year of study
- Completed a TAFE Certificate III year prior to study
- Have partially completed a pre-tertiary course at another University and are applying for the IUOC in consultation with the IUOC Coordinator.
If you successfully sat the TEE and are eligible to apply for an undergraduate course, but feel you need to gradually adjust to university level study before tackling an undergraduate level course, you can use the IUOC to acclimatise yourself to tertiary study.
If you do not meet any of the above, there is an IUOC Application Process you can complete to be considered for the course.
Need time to settle in?
